What people ask us most often before their first flight. If your answer is not here, call us — we reply faster by phone than by email.
The flight
- How long does a flight last?
- The flight itself lasts 45–60 minutes, depending on the wind. The whole procedure takes about 3 hours though: choosing the field, inflating the balloon, the flight, landing and recovery by car.
- How high do you fly?
- Usually around 1000 metres (roughly 3000 feet). The pilot changes altitude to catch the air current that carries the balloon in the right direction.
- Why do flights only happen early morning or in the evening?
- That is when the air is most stable. In the middle of the day, thermal activity makes flight unpredictable, so we do not operate.
- Where do you launch from?
- From the Ocna Sibiului or Porumbacu de Jos area. The field is chosen on the day, according to the wind direction — a balloon has no direction of its own, so the starting point depends on where the wind wants to take us.
- Where do you land?
- There is no way to know in advance. The pilot picks a safe field along the path the wind dictates, and the ground crew drives out to bring you back to the starting point.
Booking and weather
- How do I book a flight?
- Call us on (+4) 0746 58 99 86, message us on WhatsApp, or write to [email protected]. We agree on an approximate date, based on the availability of the pilot and the crew.
- When do I know for certain that the flight is on?
- 2–3 days beforehand, watching the weather forecast. Until then the date is provisional — a firm promise any earlier would not be worth much.
- What happens if the weather does not allow it?
- The flight is rescheduled by mutual agreement. Safety is not traded against the calendar: if wind, visibility or precipitation do not allow it, we do not take off.
- I want to fly in the next few days. Is that possible?
- Call or message on WhatsApp at (+4) 0746 58 99 86. For flights within the next 3 days, the phone is the only way we can still catch a weather window.
On the field
- What should I wear?
- Comfortable clothes and closed shoes suitable for a farm field. At 1000 metres it is a few degrees cooler than on the ground, and the morning grass is wet.
- Who cannot fly?
- People with chronic conditions that could be aggravated by flight, and anyone under the influence of alcohol or hallucinogenic substances, are not accepted on board. If you have any doubt about your health, tell us before booking.
- Why do you ask for my weight?
- The balloon has an authorised minimum and maximum weight for safe flight, and the load is calculated before take-off. That is why we ask for the total weight of the passengers, not for each person separately.
- Is it a calm flight, or does it feel like flying in a plane?
- The balloon moves with the air mass, so you feel no wind in the basket and no sense of speed. The only noise is the burner, fired now and then. Most passengers are surprised by how quiet it is.
